Study Skills Program
The following areas can be covered by our study skills program:
- Figuring out your child’s learning style
- Speed reading
- Time management
- Note taking
- Test preparation
- Memory techniques and Mnemonics
- Essay writing
- Self regulation for optimum performance (e.g., biofeedback and sensory integration)
- Motivation and reward systems
How is our program different from other programs?
The aim of this program is to teach parents and children METAGOGNITION (awareness and understanding one's thinking and cognitive processes; thinking about thinking). Our goal is to give parents and children the tools to figure out future problems with an arsenal of study skills. Through short term mentorship we help your child apply skills directly to their school work; there are no drills or exercises, only application of new skills to existing problems.
Unlike other study skills programs we try to keep our program:
- short (often just a few months)
- collaborate with parents, teachers and the student to work toward the same goals
- use your child’s personal motivation to improve performance (e.g., topics that interest them)
